Most of us have surely realized that not everyone thinks, works, or acts like you. It is easy to label co-workers or friends as lazy, crazy, or disorganized when their behaviour does not match your expectations, but such name calling rarely helps us understand personality differences.

Look around your office and see if you see any of these people. Someone who likes immediate results and tends not to listen to details before making decisions. They act quickly but often cut people off mid-sentence. Or maybe you can spot someone who is always optimistic and looks for the best in everyone. They enjoy conversations, networking events and spreading their influence using their charismatic style. Is there anyone who is very predictable and patient? Always loyal to the organization and listens attentively. Maybe there is another person who is interested in accuracy and details. They enjoy working alone and prefer to use diplomacy to solve problems rather than direct confrontation. It would be surprising if you couldn’t spot each of these 4 broad types in all but the smallest of offices.

Having information about personality types and preferences can be incredibly useful. Once you understand the basic personality preferences under which people operate, as well as your own preferences, you can begin to find ways to more effectively work with opposite types or even your own type. Through type watching, you can find ways to build upon people's strengths and improve many group activities, such as time management, conflict resolution, problem solving, and teambuilding.

The ‘True Colours’ personality preferences are introduced and explored in an interactive, non-threatening way. The results describe preferences rather than skills or abilities. No type is better than another; each one has its own typical characteristics and represents the differences in the way people prefer to behave. A variety of exercises are then used to link the theory of the personality colours to practical work examples and typical issues faced in communication.
