This creative and enjoyable team CSI activity produces much needed and lasting benefits for children who don’t have easy access to a commodity that many of us took for granted when we were growing up
Working in teams of 8-10 pax each participant is responsible for specific tasks, playing their part in producing beautiful, brightly coloured and creatively designed bookcases. Each team starts with a theme and components of their bookcase. After a team brainstorm and strategy session roles are assigned and work begins to design, create and build the teams bookcase. Half the team are responsible for producing the elaborate themed mural that forms the backdrop of the bookshelf whilst the other half turn the shelves in to a work of art by attending a decoupage workshop and then applying the techniques.
Once each group completes their work it’s time to put the bookcase together and ensure that everything lines up. The finishing touches are applied and each team presents their creation to the judges explaining the rationale for their design and how they hope to inspire youngsters to fall in love with books, reading & learning. Where possible representatives from the schools, hospitals or orphanages are on hand to accept the bookshelves and explain how they will make a difference in their new home.
To add extra impact many groups also collect books before and after the event to make sure that the bookshelves are full from day 1 and that the books are constantly updated.
BookWorx is a great team activity, a real challenge, lots of fun and very rewarding. If creating bookshelves, encouraging bookworms and fulfilling a great need in the community appeals then BookWorx is for you!
